Altering Referral Sources
Abstract
Capable 21C has the ability to record where a new patient/client was referred
from. This 'referral source' can either be a simple phrase (eg
Advertising, Yellow Pages, etc), or can identify another person (eg a referring
practitioner, or another patient/client). This knowledgebase article
describes how to customise the list of referral sources available.
Underlying challenge
Capable 21C is shipped with a generic list of available referral sources.
These are:
- Free Spinal Listing
- Letterbox Drop
- Local Directory
- Newspaper Advertising
- Radio Advertising
- Shopping Mall Signage
- Television Advertising
- Verbal
- Yellow Pages
Only the 'Verbal' referral source allows a specific referee to be nominated.
Note that this feature is intended for analysing the source of new patients.
It is not intended to address legislative or health insurance issues for
identifying a referring practitioner or for maintaining an ongoing referral.
This can be useful if the patient was professionally referred for health care by
a practitioner, but originally found the office via some other means (eg Yellow
Pages). See Detailed Information for more information.
Resolution
To change the list of referral sources:
- Go to Setup|Setup Referral Sources.
- To remove an existing referral source, left click on it to select it, then right
click on it for a fly-out menu. Choose delete.
- To alter an existing referral source, double click on it. Key the
alteration, and then click Close.
- To add a new referral source, click the Create button. Key the name of the
new referral source and then click Close.
Detailed Information
Note that when altering or adding a referral source, a tickbox is available for
specifying whether another person's details can be attached. Tick this box
if the office requires these kinds of details to be recorded.
If the office is required to retain information about a referring practitioner
for legislative or health insurance reasons, this information is stored
independently. To record this kind of information, go to Patient Details,
and go to the Insurance tab. There are fields available for recording a
referring practitioner, and the validity of that referral.
