Abstract
This knowledgebase article describes simple steps to backup Capable 21C to an external
storage device.

Refer to the resolution for step by step instructions on backing up and restoring
the Capable 21C database.
Resolution
Creating Backups
Creating a Backup copy of all patient data:
- Close Capable down on all PC’s
- Go to the server (PC where the database is stored)
- Insert a removable storage device
- Go to My Computer > Local Disk C
- Right click on the folder called Capable and select Send To|Removable storage device
Perform this backup at then end of every shift.
Creating a Backup copy of the Capable 21C program:
- Close Capable on any one PC (preferably the PC used to do Live Updates).
- Insert the removable storage device (eg memory stick).
- Go to My Computer > Local Disk C > Program Files
- Right click on the folder called Capable and select Send To|Removable storage
device
Restoring Patient Data from the Backup database when the current database is damaged
- Close Capable down on all PC’s
- Insert the removable storage device that contains the backup of the Capable folder
into the server (PC where the database is stored)
- Open the Capable folder on the removable storage device
- Right click and copy the file called Capable.mdb
- Go to My Computer > Local Disk C
- Double click on the Capable folder
- Right click on the Capable.mdb file and select rename
- Call it CapableDamaged.mdb
- Right click in a blank part of the page and select Paste
- The backup Capable.mdb will appear
- Start Capable again, it will load with the backup data.
